The layer or layers are active for the current page. In the Layer Properties dialog box, select the check box in the Active column for each layer you want to make active. On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click Layers, and select Layer Properties. This will bring up a slider that you can use to adjust the transparency of the image. Shapes you add to the page are automatically assigned to all of the active layers.
